Instructional Designer / Trainer


Job Summary

This individual will help grow the training business and increase customer enablement and retention by innovating customer training offerings, coordinating and executing training activities, and collaborating with customers and SofTrek stakeholders.

Specifically, the Instructional Designer & Trainer is responsible for designing and developing effective training classes and associated training materials for customers and internal staff to support their use of SofTrek software, as well as executing training in a classroom setting at SofTrek, on-site at the client location, or via online training. These training offerings and materials should meet customer needs while applying best practices for effective adult learning.

The ideal candidate has proven analysis, project management, and evaluation skills and can develop training for both in-person and virtual delivery. He/she will be a strong self-starter with a proven ability to manage their workload. He/she will be a flexible problem-solver with excellent communication skills (oral and written.)  Prospects must have the ability to lead projects to completion and to determine tangible ways to best educate our clients

 

Key Responsibilities

Client & Internal Training

  • Deliver training online, at the client's location, or at SofTrek.
  • Deliver product training for client-requested sessions, regularly scheduled monthly webinars, and occasional special topics webinars
  • Develop plans and implement programs to educate internal staff on SofTrek products, services, company processes/procedures
  • Conduct new hire training and monitor ramp-up plan for new hires within their first 90 days
  • Prepare all communications, logistics, hospitality tasks (if needed) and training materials before each training session
  • Prepare database training environment before each training session
  • Perform client follow up after each training session
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing Education offerings by analyzing summative satisfaction survey data

Instructional Design

  • Continue to expand instructional curriculum to increase learning and reinforce concepts for new and existing clients

Management

  • Prioritize and effectively project manage any Education project or task to successful completion, meeting deadlines, specific client and/or internal requirements, and milestones based on the Statement of Work (SOW) and specified budget
  • Help your manager recruit, screen and hire Education interns
  • Direct and monitor activities of Education Team interns, including monitoring their schedule and handling final requirements dictated by intern’s college

Quality Control

  • Serve as client advocate by reporting any discovered SofTrek application issues, and voicing potential concerns during the software development process
  • Proof all educational materials (training, documentation or otherwise) developed by Education and other team members

Administrative

  • Track all billable hours (for training prep, delivery and follow-up) according to internal procedure
  • Bill and close out training projects
  • Create training and travel estimates
  • Update and maintain data in our generic Training database according to defined data entry procedures to ensure that timely, authentic data is readily available across application features

Planning/Strategy

  • Implement yearly strategic planning process for Education Department
    • Develop and manage roadmap for existing training offerings
    • Recommend pricing for all appropriate Education activities
    • Determine initiatives that require Marketing support
    • Determine technology necessary for effective completion of work or for streamlining processes (i.e. triggers or custom procedures in training database, new LMS tool)
    • Work with Client Success and Engineering to determine needs for documentation/training to benefit internal staff
    • Recommend tools, approaches, styling, and delivery vehicles for educational programs, including training and documentation
  • Develop a process to continually generate ideas for new offerings that can increase billings and grow department revenues

Professional Development

  • Research and apply best practices to all Education Team methodologies and materials
  • Maintain knowledge through reading, workshops, conferences, etc., of trends and best practices in the nonprofit industry, training, and instructional design

 

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Instructional Design, Education, Communications, English, or a closely related field
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, as well as strong editing skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Outstanding soft people skills, including an ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and with clients
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively to bring innovation and a fresh approach to training design and delivery
  • Self-starter with high energy and a passion for adult learning
  • Some travel is required (up to 15%)

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and developing educational materials for adult learners is a strong plus
  • Experience with project planning and resource management is a plus
  • Master's degree in education, adult education, or a closely related field is a plus
  • Multimedia, graphic design, or other design and technical skills are a plus
  • Knowledge of non-profit industry is a strong plus
  • Learning management system (LMS/LCMS) experience is a plus
